The magnificent historic center of Valencia city avails of having major historic monuments, galleries, World Heritage sites, plazas and pretty winding streets all within a short.

Valencia city has a busy social and cultural calendar and many of these festivals are celebrated through the streets of the historic center.

The “Las Fallas” festival in March of each year is probably the most well known of these festivals where the entire city celebrates with street parties, processions in traditional dress, firework displays and a final super-party on the 19th of March where effigies are burned around the whole city.

Locally known as the “Barrio del Carmen” or “El Carmen” the area includes the Plaza de la Virgen with the Basilica and main Cathedral, Plaza de la Reina, La Lonja de la Seda – UNESCO World heritage site, the fabulous Mercado Central (Central Market) fresh food market, IVAM modern art gallery and the main square and town hall the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.

The Port of Valencia is 6km from the Barrio del Carmen with regular ferries to Ibiza and the Balearic Islands and nearby to the port is the fabulous Malvarossa beach and Paseo Maritimo which offers almost 5km of sandy beaches and an excellent selection of restaurants and cafés.
